This custom pictogram library was created for use in Field Nation materials, most notably--across their website. The challenge with using just any open source library was that there weren't consistent sets of pictograms or icons that could illustrate concepts and issues unique to the IT field service industry that Field Nation is involved in. My task was to create simple and recognizable pictograms that still embodied the look and feel of the brand.
Creating the library took one to two months during my time as a part-time intern. I first spent several weeks researching pictograms and visual perception, while iterating concepts with different design styles. Ultimately, we chose to do low-detail, semi-rounded corners, and used secondary colors indigo and teal to create visual interest. Finally, I used our new style standard to create new pictograms.I initially started with 35 basic pictograms. The library has steadily grown as I continue to create new ones based on need.
Below, you'll see a few applications of the pictograms on the Field Nation website. Other applications not pictured include printed marketing materials, presentation decks, and the Field Nation platform application.
